Adam and Eve can’t believe their luck as they move into their sprawling new home in the countryside. The contract has not yet been signed, but at night, seller Lucas and his girlfriend stop by for dinner—a great opportunity to close the deal. What follows instead is a barrage of low-blow insults and transgressions, as the gloves and masks come off and the situation escalates. And then the doorbell rings. Barbarians is an intricate game of mirrors with disquieting undertones bordering on agony, embedded in a highly symbolic turf, carried by an outstanding ensemble cast.

Charles Dorfman
