On their trip to Tuscany, Danes Bjørn and Louise meet a Dutch family who months later invites them to visit their house. Not to seem rude, the two accept, but soon after their arrival, confusion sets in, which in Christian Tafdrup’s ice-cold social-anxiety thriller Speak No Evil unravels into a psycho-terrorist minefield. The script starts out as a poignant satire of manners but soon tears down the crumbling facade entirely, galloping at full-speed toward nihilism—definitely one of the most uncomfortable movies at this year’s festival.
